Animal Management Executive Officer - Whangarei

A pivotal role has become available for a highly motivated professional who is looking for a challenging yet rewarding position. Concentrating on the whole Whangarei region, the Senior Animal Control Officer offers the community a solid and thorough service ensuring public safety and compliance with the Dog Control Act and associated Bylaws.

This role will offer daily challenges and will keep you interested and busy however, underlying guidelines that are built upon relevant legislation and bylaws will offer clear guidelines that will enable you to tackle each new challenge with process and procedure. At times you will have the opportunity to offer education and knowledge to the public or potentially, follow through with enforcement. Confidence in your knowledge, or ability to quickly learn, relevant legislation will be paramount.

An important aspect of this role will be completing thorough investigations. Proven experience in undertaking investigations with a view to preparing cases for potential prosecution is a must. Ensuring thorough files are compiled and kept is a significant aspect of this role as each file has the potential to become a prosecution file.

Further duties and tasks of this role will include:

  • Management and completion of all administrative tasks within the Animal Control department
  • Ensure all documents and reports are complete, clear and concise
  • This is a highly interactive role that will see you working with and alongside a range of positions and people including compliance and animal officers, council staff and serving the public. It is essential that you are able to build relationships quickly and foster a positive working culture.

Previous experience in animal management would be ideal as would prior investigative experience with an ability to come up to speed quickly with new legislation and policy requirements.
